Big Brothers Big Sisters of Manitowoc County
Little Moments equal Big Magic for both "Bigs" & "Littles".
Little News
Packer Game
Little Brother Sam and his Big Brother Leon LeClair got to attend one of the early season games of the Green Bay Packers thanks to the generosity of a Big Brothers Big Sisters supporter who donated tickets. Leon & Sam said they had great seats and the experience will be a lasting memory for both of them. A special thank you goes out to our supporters that donate tickets to these types of events.
High School Musical
Big Sister Darlene Hoffman and her Little Sister Brittany pose in front of the Dare to Dream Theater. As a theater group member, Brittany was cast in their production of Disney's High School Musical performed at the Capital Civic Centre. We understand that Big Sister Darlene made a huge commitment to drive Brittany to the many rehearsal sessions before the big event finally hit the stage at the Capital Civic Centre. Thanks you Darlene for being a great Big Sister and congratulations Brittany for a job well done!
Soap Box Derby
Little Brother Austin and his Big Brother Leon LeClair recently participated in the Manitowoc Amvet Post 99 kids Soap Box Derby race on Derby Hill in the Manitowoc Rapids area. The Amvet organization provided the gravity race car and Big Brother Leon and his Little Brother Austin added the finishing touches prior to race day. Austin dropped 14 pounds of weight to qualify for the event and was looking forward to finding the nearest snack stand after the race on June 14th. Austin did not capture the 1st place trophy, but had a great time. The fun experienced working on this project together will make a lifetime memory for both Austin & Leon. Congratulations to both Leon & Austin!
Hooked on a Hobby Kids Fish Derby
Little Brother Colton and Big Brother Tom Kocourek participated in the Hooked on a Hobby Kids Fish Derby held at Long Lake in Manitowoc County on June 14th. A total of 91 children, age 15 and younger participated and a total of 55 fish were caught and released. In March of 2008, Colton & Tom participated in the fish rod building match event held at BBBS. Colton had a chance to try out that new fishing rod at the Hooked on a Hobby derby. Fish were registered in four different divisions including Bass, Crappie, Perch, and Bluegill. Colton managed to catch 2 Crappies with his largest measuring 8.75 inches. The fish was large enough for Colton to take 3rd place, winning him a new fish rod and tackle box. Congratulations Colton and Tom for making memories on your fishing adventure.
Fish Fantasy Parade
A BIG THANK You goes out to Little Brothers Austin & James and Little Sisters Alicia & Jacklyn for volunteering to be part of the Two Rivers Fish Fantasy Parade on July 18th. The parade was held in conjunction with the Two Rivers Kiwanis Fish Derby. BBBS saw the parade as an opportunity to spread the good news about our mentoring program and possibly encourage others to become Bigs.
